Commissioner of Public Lands Hilary Franz and the WA Department of Natural Resources will soon be making a long-lasting critical decision about about whether or not commercial net pen aquaculture has a future in Puget Sound. It’s essential that we capture the voices of as many members of the public as possible to call on Commissioner Franz to guarantee the public that these waters—currently degraded and restricted for private profit—will be restored and managed for the public’s benefit and use by all citizens.

With just one click, you can share the Taking Back Our Sound petition with your friends and family on Facebook or Twitter.

During the lease decision-making process there is no formal public comment period. In order to ensure all members of the public directly impacted by this decision have the chance to make their voices heard on this critical decision, we’re inviting individuals, organizations, businesses, industries, and other groups impacted by the impacts of net pen aquaculture to draft letters of support to be submitted along with the final Taking Back Our Sound Restoration Project lease applications to take back our public waters from the commercial net pen industry.

If you’d like to learn more about submitting a letter of support, send an email to: emma@wildfishconservancy.org

Every dollar contributed to this new Our Sound, Our Salmon campaign will power the research, education, and outreach necessary to engage the public on this critical issue. At the same time, your donation will provide the resources necessary to stand up to a billion-dollar international corporation and hold Washington’s state agencies responsible for acting in the public’s best interest to protect wild salmon, steelhead, killer whales, and Puget Sound, an irreplaceable public heritage.

Make your donation today to help end commercial net pen aquaculture in Puget Sound, once and for all.

The Our Sound, Our Salmon campaign is facilitated by Wild Fish Conservancy. All donations are tax-deductible and will directly support Our Sound, Our Salmon projects and campaigns.
